Who we are
Climbing Forecast is run by Stephane Kelk, a sole trader, at 32 Corkran Road, Surbiton, KT6 6PN. Stephane is the data controller for personal data collected on this site and is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office. Contact: climbingforecast@gmail.com.
Analytics
This site uses Umami for anonymous visitor statistics. No cookies are used. No personal data is stored. IP addresses are hashed and not retained. Umami simply records page views and which crag pages are being looked at so we can see whether the site is useful.
Weather data
Weather forecasts are fetched from the Met Office (UK crags) and yr.no / MET Norway (other regions, and as a fallback for the UK). No user data is shared with either provider — we only send the latitude and longitude of the crag.
Condition logs
If you submit a condition log, the text you enter is stored privately and used only to improve the forecast algorithm. It is not displayed to other visitors. An anonymised IP hash is stored alongside for spam prevention only — the raw IP is never saved.
Newsletter
If you sign up to the newsletter, we collect your email address and a record of when and how you agreed to receive it. We use it only to send you a weekly newsletter and special offers from Climbing Forecast by email. Our lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email, or by emailing us.
Emails are sent through EmailOctopus (Three Hearts Digital Ltd, UK), which acts as our data processor. Your data is stored on Amazon Web Services servers in Ireland (EU), which UK law recognises as providing adequate protection.
Our emails contain a small tracking image and tracked links, so we can see whether each email was opened and which links were clicked. We use this only to understand what subscribers find useful. By signing up you agree to this tracking; you can stop it by unsubscribing, or by turning off image loading in your email app.
We never sell or share your email address with anyone else. If you unsubscribe, we delete your details, or keep only your email address on a suppression list so we never email you again by mistake.
Contacting us
If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply to you, and delete them once the conversation is finished, unless we need to keep them to deal with a complaint.
Sponsored banners
Some pages show a banner from a sponsor, clearly labelled Sponsored. The banners are served directly by this site — no advertising network, no ad cookies and no tracking scripts from the sponsor. Umami anonymously counts how often a banner is seen and clicked so we can report totals to the sponsor; no personal data is shared with them.

This site contains Amazon affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Clicking an affiliate link does not change the price you pay. No other affiliate networks are used.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email climbingforecast@gmail.com. We'll respond within one month.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first at climbingforecast@gmail.com. We'll acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and let you know the outcome without undue delay. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, 0303 123 1113.
