Anglezarke Quarry is one of Lancashire's most substantial gritstone quarry venues, offering high-quality traditional climbing on steep quarried walls and well-defined buttresses. The rock character is typical fine-grained fellstone grit, featuring technical slabs, aggressive crack lines, and prominent arêtes that test finger strength and gear placement accuracy. Facing predominantly southwest, the quarry catches generous sun from mid-morning onwards, allowing the main quarry walls to dry rapidly after rainfall, though sheltered recesses can hold dampness in winter. The grade range is broad, spanning lower-grade juggy cracks up to high-E-grade micro-crimping wall climbs, making it an essential venue for local trad climbers. Classic routes such as Golden Crown and The Finger highlight the technical wall and fissure climbing characteristic of the area. Access is straightforward via Leicester Mill Quarries paths, with parking near the reservoir and a short ten-minute walk in across level terrain. Climbers should be aware that sandy top-outs and loose blocks on lower-tier ledges require caution when topping out or setting up belays.
