Tidal access
Base belay ledges covered at high tide — access strictly 2h either side of low water
Bolt Head guards the entrance to the Salcombe Estuary, offering wild quartz-schist sea cliff climbing amidst breathtaking coastal scenery. The rock is highly featured schist with sharp horizontal breaks, positive crimps, and clean vertical crack lines. Facing south into the English Channel, the crag acts as a sun trap and dries very rapidly after rain under open coastal winds. Grade options focus on traditional sea cliff climbs between Severe and E-grades, with Bolt Wall being a standout highlight. The approach involves a twenty-minute coastal walk from East Soar car park followed by an abseil descent to low-level ledges. Tidal timing is essential as high water covers the starting platforms.
