About Bowden Doors

Sandstone is fragile and damages easily when damp; avoid climbing until properly dry. Immaculate Fell Sandstone with brilliant pockets, technical arêtes, and proud overhangs; the modest moorland elevation catches maximum sunshine and dries rapidly after rain, though the crag is fully exposed to prevailing westerly winds. Approach is a quick 10-minute walk from the Bowden Doors parking layby on the Belford road. Classics include Main Wall (HVS 5b), Tiger Wall (VS 5a) and Canada Crack (HVS 5a); Bowden grades are often reckoned stiff.
