About Castle Naze

Castle Naze is an impressive gritstone promontory overlooking Chapel-en-le-Frith, set within the earthworks of an Iron Age hillfort. The rock is solid gritstone, though certain shaded corners and lower walls can hold moss and dampness. Facing northwest, the crag receives limited sun until late in the afternoon, resulting in slower drying times and cold climbing conditions throughout winter and spring. The climbing style features steep wall climbing, chimney stacks, and sharp arêtes primarily in the Severe to E2 grade band. Outstanding classic climbs include Keep Right and The Crack. The approach involves a steady fifteen-minute uphill walk from the side roads near Combs village. Its northwest orientation makes warm summer days the absolute best time to plan a visit.
