Castleberg Rock is a prominent limestone crag towering directly above the market town of Settle. The rock consists of sound, quarried and natural gray limestone featuring steep vertical walls, crisp edges, and clean lower-off chains. Facing south, the crag acts as a brilliant sun trap and dries rapidly after rain due to its open elevation above the town. The crag has been developed into an urban sport venue, offering fully bolted routes from 4 to 7a, making it popular for warm-ups and evening climbs. Classic routes like Castleberg Wall provide enjoyable, accessible sport climbing. Access takes under five minutes via zig-zag public paths from Settle market place. Belayers should be mindful of pedestrians using the park paths beneath the crag.
