About Clear Creek Canyon (Wall of Justice + Anarchy Wall area)

Clear Creek Canyon is greater Denver's flagship sport-climbing canyon — over 1,000 bolted routes on Precambrian gneiss along US-6 between Golden and Idaho Springs, twenty minutes west of downtown Denver. The rock is metamorphic gneiss with what climbers call the trademark "swirly pattern with crimps that are easier on your skin than sharp granite edges" — a mix of gneiss, schist, and sandy granite band that runs differently than Boulder Canyon's uniform granodiorite. The canyon has a dozen concentrated sport walls; the classic tick list spans the ambitious grade range: on the Wall of '90s is Clear Creek's most-climbed multipitch (1,332 ascents); Curvaceous (5.11b) and Wet Dream (5.12a) on the same wall; **Walking With A Ghost (5.11b/c)** in the Canal Zone; **Anarchitect (5.12d)** at the Anarchy Wall. Sub-areas include Wall of Justice, New River Wall, Primo Wall, Anarchy Wall, and The Playground. Aspect varies wall-to-wall since the canyon runs east-west — south-facing walls (Red Slab, Dog House) climb through winter. **Annual raptor closures typically run February 1 – July 31** on specific walls including Eagle Rock — check on-site or the Boulder Climbing Community's closures page. Approaches are 5–10 minutes from roadside pull-offs on US-6; USFS and Jefferson County Open Space land, no fee. Speed limit through the canyon is 40 mph — enforced.
