About Cligga Head

Cligga Wall (E1 5b), Mine Workings (E2 5c), Tin Route (VS)","Cligga Head is a dramatic, heavily mineralised sea cliff near Perranporth, characterized by stained granite, shale, and historic tin mining remains. The rock character is complex and variable, featuring mineral-veined slate, sharp quartz bands, and brittle crack systems. Facing northwest into the Atlantic, the cliff stays shaded until late afternoon, drying steadily under sea breezes but holding dampness in mine adits. Route selection is strictly for adventurous traditional climbers, offering serious E-grade wall climbs and wild traversals like Cligga Wall. The approach requires a fifteen-minute coastal walk from Cligga industrial estate followed by a steep, loose scramble or abseil. Highly friable rock, mining voids, and strict tidal cut-offs require high caution.
