About Cobbler (Ben Arthur)

Cobbler (Ben Arthur) is one of the most famous peaks in the Southern Highlands, boasting three dramatic schist summits above Arrochar. The rock character is rough mica-schist, featuring steep overhanging roofs, sweeping slabs, and mountain cracks across high-altitude towers. Facing multiple directions across its North, Centre, and South peaks, climbers can choose aspects, though high altitude means seepage persists after rain. The climbing is concentrated on classic mountain multi-pitch traditional routes from VS to hard E-grades, led by Punster's Crack. The approach involves a strenuous, two-hour mountain trek up built paths from the Succoth car park at the head of Loch Long. Mountain exposure, sudden cloud inversions, and loose blocks on unclimbed ground require full mountaineering preparation.
