About Coopers Rock
Coopers Rock State Forest is the Mid-Atlantic's premier bouldering venue — thousands of established problems (~2,500 in the current guide) on Upper Connoquenessing Sandstone of the Pottsville Formation, plus hundreds of top-rope climbs and short trad leads. Described by Mountain Project as "gritstone-like" — coarse texture, slopers, rounded jugs, sloping pockets, stiff grades, ~300 million years old, same wet-tolerant Cumberland/Pottsville family. Just off I-68 Exit 15, 20 minutes east of Morgantown WV. Multiple sectors: Sunset Wall, Roadside Rocks, Upper Rock City, Tilted Tree. Tilted Tree dries first; Rhododendron Cave is climbable in rain; other sectors need considerable drying time.
