About Craig yr Ysfa

Craig yr Ysfa is a vast, remote mountain amphitheatre hidden in the wild heart of the Carneddau, composed of rugged volcanic rock. The cliff provides long, atmospheric multi-pitch traditional routes on rough, featured rock, though deep gullies and shaded corners seep heavily late into summer. Facing east at an elevation above 700 metres, the crag receives morning sun before descending into cold mountain shade. The grade spectrum ranges from classic VDiff mountain scrambles to technical E-grades, dominated by the legendary Amphitheatre Buttress. The approach requires a long, strenuous ninety-minute mountain trek from the A5 via Ffynnon Llugwy. Extreme mountain exposure, remote isolation, and complex descents demand thorough preparation and mountain navigation skills.
