About Civetta — North-West Face

The 'Wall of Walls' — a 1000-1200m NW-facing rampart running for 4km above the Val di Zoldo, one of the most serious big walls in the Alps. Monte Civetta reaches 3220m and the base of the NW wall sits around 2000-2200m. The base is reached from Rifugio Coldai on the north side or Rifugio Vazzoler on the south, both several hours from the road. Every route is long and serious: Solleder-Lettenbauer (1925) is the definitive line at 1100m of climbing, and Philipp-Flamm is the modern testpiece. The NW aspect means late morning to afternoon sun only, and the sheer height traps moisture — expect damp lower pitches even after several dry days in early summer. Bivy commonly required. Committing objective terrain.
