About Piz Ciavazes (Sella)

The south-west rampart of the Sella group massif — one of the most impressive and accessible faces in the Dolomites, rising directly from the Passo Sella road on the Val Gardena / Val di Fassa boundary. Ten-minute walk from the pass parking. South-facing so drying is fast; the classic middle-grade multi-pitches (Big and Little Micheluzzi, Schubert) are 350m long and end at the Gamsband mid-height terrace because the rock quality drops on the upper half. Solid but often polished from decades of climbing on the popular lines. Modern bolted sport multi-pitches like Dolomiti Race have added a whole new dimension to the crag. Standard afternoon thunderstorm risk applies.
