About Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Drei Zinnen) — Cima Grande

Cima Grande (Große Zinne, 2999m) is the middle and highest tower of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo group — known as Drei Zinnen in South Tyrolean German. Its 500m north face is one of the great big walls of the Alps, near-vertical dolomia principale. Emilio Comici's 1933 line up the north face is a foundational route of European climbing. Approach from Rifugio Auronzo (2320m — reachable by the toll road) takes ~1 hour. Best conditions come after a stable dry spell in mid-summer, and even then afternoon thunderstorms are the norm — always plan to be off the wall by early afternoon.
