About Exit 38 (Deception Crags)
Exit 38 — officially Deception Crags — is Seattle's default sport-climbing destination, spread across three parking areas (Mount Washington, Deception Crags, Far Side) just off I-90 between North Bend and Snoqualmie Pass. Over 780 routes range from friendly 5.6 warm-ups to overhanging 5.13 testpieces on the region's characteristic volcanic metamorphic rock. Nevermind Wall is the after-work standard; Substation and Deception Wall the taller multi-pitch walls. The catch is Cascade weather: tree cover keeps several routes seeping for days after rain, and a persistent wet stripe through the middle of some walls stays damp except in high summer. Best conditions are May through October. Washington Discover Pass required at most trailheads — check Washington Climbers Coalition for current parking status.
