About Gastlosen

The 'Saanenland Dolomites' — a chain of wildly-jagged limestone towers on the Fribourg/Bern cantonal border south of Jaun. 1200+ routes in 64 sectors, from Plaisir bolted lines to full tower ascents; the highest peak is Dent de Savigny (2252m), with Dent de Ruth (2236m) and Wandflue (2134m) nearby. Most of the climbing is on the south-east east side of the range at around 1800m — the north face has the harder routes, the south face is less steep and dries earlier in the season. Rock is dolomitic limestone with long thin tufas shaped by centuries of rain, and drains well when the walls are clean. First climbed in the 1900s with 19m ladders — the towers still feel adventurous.
