About Utby
Utby is the flagship crag of the Gothenburg area — a superb-quality granite wall 10-25m high on the eastern edge of the city, 15 minutes from downtown. Rock is Bohus granite (the same fine-to-medium-grained ~920-million-year-old post-orogenic monzogranite batholith that makes Bohuslän world-class), so friction and drying character are identical to the flagship trad venues 90 minutes north. 461 trad routes across the sectors, plus 67 bolted sport lines and 437 boulder problems — enough for a lifetime of after-work climbing. Most Utby crags face south to south-east so the wall is in sun for most of the day, with easy walk-off tops. Gothenburg's mild maritime climate stretches the season from April through October.
