About Grotta del Ferro (Val del Ferro)

A vast granite roof / cave sector in Val del Ferro, a side branch of Val di Mello, 1 hour on foot up through ancient beech forest past two Ferro waterfalls. Grotta del Ferro is a 40m roof with about 15 routes from 8a to 9a+, bolted over three years by Simone Pedeferri and team. Routes are 35-45m long. The combination of deep-forest shade, valley-bottom altitude (1200m) and huge roof makes this the coolest summer venue in the whole Mello valley system — a genuine hot-weather refuge in the classic Ticino / Verzasca style. Impermeable granite plus roof means the crag stays climbable in most rain; only very heavy rain drives climbers off.
