About Hellgate Cliffs

Hellgate Cliffs is Little Cottonwood Canyon's high-alpine limestone destination — white limestone towers at 2686m, above the treeline, roughly 800m higher than Gate Buttress. 'Infamous for loose rock, especially in the early to mid summer' per Mountain Project — helmet essential. Most routes require two-rope rappels. Different microclimate from lower LCC due to the altitude — the area is often snow-choked into June in normal winters. Best window is late summer through early autumn.
