About Joe's Valley — New Joe's

New Joe's is the newer development area on the Cottonwood Canyon side (accessed off Rt 57 rather than UT-29) and holds a disproportionate share of the world-famous hard lines — Black Lung (V13, Area 51) is the flagship, Planet of the Apes (V7) and Chips (V7 post-chip, both on the Chips boulder) are the marquee mid-grade compression classics, and Resident Evil (V9/V10) rounds out the hard mid-range. Character is more overhung and roof-heavy than Left or Right Fork. Same Blackhawk/Star Point sandstone geology so the wet-rock rule is identical — never climb damp, 2 dry days minimum after rain. Notable access note: Chips was chipped in 2022 and the community grade dropped from V7 to V6; the wider Joe's ethic emphasises no touching of wet rock and no manufacturing of holds.
