Limekilns is a historical limestone quarry and natural cliff network situated along the northern shores of the Firth of Forth in Fife. The rock character features compact, hard limestone with sharp pockets, small crimps, and crisp edges, offering precise vertical face climbing. Facing south across the tidal estuary, the crag receives maximum daylight and dries extremely quickly in coastal breezes. Grade options are plentiful across the traditional spectrum from Diff up to hard E-grades, highlighted by quality benchmark lines like Gelert. The approach is trivial, taking under five minutes along flat coastal paths from the roadside parking laybys in Limekilns village. Soft ground at the cliff base and occasional loose rock on upper quarry tiers demand standard care.
