About Lincoln Woods
Lincoln Woods State Park is Rhode Island's only real climbing area and one of New England's most historic bouldering venues — hundreds of granite erratics (regional Esmond Granite / Esmond–Dedham Batholith bedrock) scattered across a wooded state park just north of Providence. Mountain Project climbers consistently rate Lincoln Woods as a fast-drying destination — "unless there has been rain, snow, or similar weather in the past 24–48 hours, there will be dry rock to climb." Top-ticked problems are The Wave (V2), Peace Dove (V3), The Quiet Buddhist (V3), Heart of Glass (V4+), and Loadies Zen (V6-7). Twenty-minute drive from downtown Providence and forty from Boston makes this the region's short-notice bouldering trip. Forest cover shades the boulders through summer; October through May is the most pleasant season, with prime friction in November and April. RI State Parks — free, sunrise-to-sunset access; no night climbing. Roadside parking near the park entrance off Route 146 (Twin River Road exit).
