About Gandalf (Djevleporten)

Above the port town of Svolvær on Austvågøy's east coast, the Gandalf and Djevleporten (Devil's Gate) crags offer some of the most accessible climbing in Lofoten — 20-30 minute walk-in, south-east-facing walls, and a mix of bolted sport and clean trad on typical Lofoten granite. Rock is the same AMCG-suite plutonic complex as elsewhere in Lofoten. East-coast position means it sees the morning sun and dries quickly, and is more sheltered from Atlantic westerlies than Presten across the island — often the crag of choice when the west side is fogged in.
