About Malin Head

The rock character features sharply contorted, highly textured quartzite with steep crimpy walls, deep zawns, and exposed sea stacks. Facing various directions across its wild headlands and coves, aspect varies, with relentless Atlantic winds drying exposed faces quickly despite frequent ocean spray. The climbing ranges from adventurous traditional routes to recent sport additions spanning Severe to 7th grade testpieces, led by lines like Stookaruddan. The approach takes ten to fifteen minutes from the Malin Head signal tower car park down steep coastal paths and wave-cut platforms. Severe Atlantic ocean swells and high tides regularly submerge lower platforms, making tide timing and swell watching critical."
