About Melrose Mountain

Melrose Mountain is a small biotite augen gneiss climbing park in the Blue Ridge Escarpment isotherm near Tryon NC — a unique zone that keeps this crag mild in winter and cooler in summer than surrounding NC areas. 46 climbs across four sub-areas on W and SW-facing cliffs with some tree canopy shade. Rock is very hard in some places and brittle in others — inspect placements. The Town of Tryon owns the cliffs; the CCC negotiated public climbing access in 2019 with the Town and Blue Ridge Adventure Guides. Two parking areas on Hogback Mountain Road ~8 miles west of downtown Tryon.
