About Mount Erie
Mount Erie is Anacortes's home crag and one of the driest destinations within 90 minutes of Seattle — the peak sits on the eastern edge of the Olympic rain shadow and gets barely half the rainfall of downtown Seattle. Over 200 routes are scattered across dozens of walls facing every compass point, so you can chase sun or shade year-round on the highly textured diorite. Zig-Zag (5.6), Snag Ledge (5.9), and Skyline Arete (5.7) are the friendly classics; Powerline Crack (5.10) and the harder testpieces reward strong climbers. The south-facing Main Wall dries first after rain — expect roughly 24 hours in wet conditions, faster on sunny days. March through October is prime. Check Skagit Alpine Club or Washington Climbers Coalition for any current voluntary peregrine closures on specific walls.
