Peshastin Pinnacles is Washington's only sandstone destination — a group of slabby sandstone towers rising above the apple orchards of the Wenatchee River Valley, an hour east of Leavenworth. The state park holds a couple of dozen routes on named formations including Orchard Rock, Grand Central Tower, and the Austrian Slab, mostly 5.7–5.10 slabs with sparse protection. The friable, exposed sandstone bakes in summer — spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) are optimal — and the park is closed each winter, typically November through March. Never climb when the rock is wet: sandstone holds break under load and rain damages routes. Discover Pass required for parking. Verify winter reopening dates each year with Washington State Parks before planning a spring trip.
