About Rätikon — Kirchlispitzen

The 500m-tall, 2km-wide south face of the Kirchlispitzen chain in the Prättigau — arguably the most famous alpine sport-multi-pitch venue in the Alps thanks to Kammerlander's Silbergeier. The rock is superb water-washed limestone with runnels rising to the pavements around the 2552m summit; routes are perfectly vertical face climbing on tiny edges and pockets. Approach via Grüscher Alp from the Swiss side. The catch is the weather: the Rätikon sits in a genuinely rainy corner of the Alps — bouldering literature says climbers often 'fail to even see the mountain'. Routes are slow to dry after rain (seepage set to medium to reflect this), and snow can persist at the base into June. September and October are the reliable windows.
