About Rumbling Bald
Rumbling Bald is one of the Southeast's premier winter bouldering venues — 340+ problems on exquisite gneiss boulders in a beautiful forest setting on the north side of Hickory Nut Gorge, 27 miles southeast of Asheville near Lake Lure NC. Mix of crack, friction, trad, sport and bouldering (mostly bouldering these days). Multiple sectors face different directions — East Side (Politician, Driver, Brackish, Gym), Cereal Buttress (Breakfast, Surreal, Middle East, Pit, Silver Platter), and West Side (French Maid, Louis Lunge, Shady Grove). Free access at 827 Boys Camp Road, Lake Lure NC 28746, now part of Chimney Rock State Park. Gneiss dries fast.
