About Salbitschijen

The 2981m granite spire above the Göschenertal, and one of the great alpine rock destinations in the Alps. The Südgrat (South Ridge, first climbed 1935) is considered the most beautiful granite ridge in Switzerland — 18 pitches of impeccable trad climbing to the summit. The Westgrat is a 35-pitch odyssey over five separate granite towers of perfect rock, mostly runout — reckon on 10-12 hours car-to-car. Rock is bomber rough Aar-massif granite, ridges are exposed and committing. Base is the SAC Salbithütte at 2105m (900m ascent from Ulmi car park in the Göschenertal). This is high alpine climbing — thunderstorm and weather bail-out planning is non-negotiable.
