About Scatwell

Scatwell is a quiet, sheltered schist cliff nestled amidst woodland in Strathconon, Ross-shire. The rock character features compact mica-schist with clean vertical walls, horizontal wiring breaks, and smooth corners. Facing south, the crag receives plenty of sun, though surrounding trees keep the base shaded and sheltered from heavy winds. Route choices cover traditional climbs from Moderate up to E2, with Scatwell Corner serving as a staple local route. The approach takes a quick ten-minute walk along forestry tracks and hillside trails from roadside parking. Midges can be heavy in the sheltered woodland environment on still, humid summer days.
