About Square Ledge

Square Ledge is the premier crag of Pinkham Notch — an east-facing granite wall opposite the AMC Pinkham Notch Visitor Center on the shoulder of Wildcat Mountain, with unmatched views of Mount Washington and the Presidential Range from the top. An excellently varied plethora of trad and toprope routes from 5.4 to 5.12 makes it a favourite for guiding, group functions, and rainy-day plan-B outings when the bigger walls are wet. The crag is largely surrounded by trees, which keeps it in the shade and drops summer temps below what you'll get on Cathedral or Cannon — the flip side is that drying after rain is slower than on exposed walls. Reached via the short (0.8-mile) Square Ledge Trail from the Pinkham Notch Visitor Center on NH Route 16 — under 20 minutes to the base. AMC visitor centre parking is free; the trail is well-blazed and moderate. Documented in Ed Webster's *Rock Climbs in the White Mountains* and the newer *North Conway Rock Climbs* (IME). Best from April through November; summer can be crowded with guiding groups.
