About Stackpole Head

Stackpole Head is a prominent, windswept limestone promontory sticking out into the Bristol Channel near Bosherston. The rock character consists of massive, wave-cut limestone slabs, towering vertical walls, and steep overhanging roofs. Facing south, the headland receives full sunshine and dries rapidly in strong coastal breezes, though heavy sea swells can swamp lower belay points. Climbing is traditional and adventurous in nature, spanning middle-grade VS climbs to formidable E-grade testpieces, led by lines like Aenigma and Cream. The approach involves a twenty-minute walk from the Stackpole Quay or Bosherston Lakes car parks along scenic coastal tracks. Severe tidal cut-offs and seasonal bird nesting bans require careful planning before descending.
