Traprain Law is a famous phonolite trachyte hill fort situated near Haddington in East Lothian, providing fine edge-dominated climbing. The rock character consists of micro-featured volcanic stone with small crimps, positive edges, and clean vertical crack systems that dry rapidly in sun and wind. Facing predominantly south, the crag acts as a natural sun trap, making it one of the most reliable and fast-drying outdoor venues in the Lothians. The route selection spans friendly low-grade trad climbs up to strenuous E-grade wall climbs, led by quintessential local classics such as Lothian Wall. Access is quick and straightforward, taking under ten minutes along clear tracks from the public car park at the northern base of the hill. Polished holds on low-grade routes and grazing livestock around the base are key features of the crag environment.
