About Ulassai — Canyon Sa Tappara
The main climbing crag of Ulassai — a canyon system towering over the village on hard Sardinian limestone. Because the canyon runs north-south, the east wall stays in shade in the morning while the west wall goes into shade in the afternoon, meaning you can always find a workable aspect regardless of season or heat. Over 150 routes span every grade from friendly F5 sport lines up to steep F8 testpieces. The critical geographic feature for the forecast: at 775m altitude, Ulassai runs several degrees cooler than the coastal Sardinian venues, making this a viable summer destination when Cala Gonone is unclimbably hot.
