Castle Rock Wall (VS 4c), Devil's Chimney (HS 4b), Valley Arete (E1 5b)","Valley of Rocks is a famed geological valley near Lynton on the Exmoor coast, featuring striking sandstone and shale towers. The rock character consists of devonian sandstone with vertical faces, sharp edges, narrow crack lines, and high-friction slab features. Facing northwest toward the Bristol Channel, the towers remain in shade during morning hours, drying steadily under coastal breezes once sun hits in late afternoon. The climbing provides short traditional routes, pinnacles, and bouldering options from Severe up to E-grades, led by Castle Rock Wall. The approach takes five to ten minutes along flat paths directly from valley parking areas. Non-tidal access allows flexible climbing, though friable rock on upper towers requires care.
