About Wimberry Rocks

Wimberry Rocks, often called the 'Jewel of the Chew', is an imposing mountain gritstone amphitheatre perched high above the Greenfield Valley. The rock is immaculate, fiercely steep gritstone featuring giant overhangs, pristine slabs, and towering arêtes. Facing northwest at high altitude, the crag catches minimal sun and suffers from cold winds, resulting in slow drying times after wet weather. The climbing here is serious, physical, and highly exposed, renowned for high-grade trad testpieces alongside classic hard lines like Freddie's Origin. The approach requires a demanding 30 to 40 minute steep mountain hike from the Dovestone Reservoir car park. The severe exposure, high altitude, and tough walk-in make warm weather and good fitness essential.
