About Beacon Rock

Beacon Rock is an 850-foot andesite monolith standing sentinel on the Washington bank of the Columbia River Gorge, roughly 30 miles east of Vancouver. All climbing is multi-pitch trad on the plug's four faces, with routes like Southeast Corner (5.7), Right Gull (5.10a), and the stern classic Blownout (5.10a). The Gorge's east wind can be fierce; the wet climate means seepage lines run for weeks after storms, so pick your window. The South and Southeast Faces close annually February 1 through mid-July for peregrine falcon nesting; Northwest and West Faces are open year-round; the East Face is closed year-round for sensitive plants and cultural resources. July through October is prime once the seasonal closure lifts. Discover Pass required for parking.
