About Bridestones

Bridestones is a unique venue situated near Todmorden, famous for its surreal, wind-sculpted gritstone outcrops and weirdly shaped erosion pinnacles scattered across the moor. The rock provides very rough, high-friction gritstone with rounded top-outs, undercut pockets, and technical mantels. Because the individual rocks and pinnacles face all points of the compass, aspects vary across the site, enabling climbers to track the sun or seek shade as desired. Positioned at moderate moorland elevation, the open wind exposure ensures rock surfaces dry rapidly after rainfall. The climbing is exclusively focused on bouldering and low-level traversing, offering classic problems like The Churn across a wide range of difficulties. The approach takes roughly ten minutes along public footpaths leading up from the valley road. The most important consideration is soft-rock conservation; the delicate undercut bases of these formations can crumble if climbed when damp.
