  • Good friction range for gritstone
Caley Crags is an iconic gritstone venue set on a wooded hillside overlooking Wharfedale near Otley. The rock consists of immaculate, highly textured gritstone offering technical slabs, powerful overhangs, and famous boulder problems. Facing south above the valley, open upper crags dry quickly in sunlight, while woodland boulders stay cool and friction-rich. The climbing covers everything from world-class bouldering to pumpy trad lines from Moderate up to E6. Iconic problems and routes like High Neb draw climbers year-round. Access takes under five minutes along well-trodden paths from roadside laybys on the A660. Brushing gritstone holds gently and respecting woodland paths are vital to preserving this high-use crag.
