About Chironico

One of the largest bouldering venues in Europe — over 2100 problems across 37 sectors on the wooded hillside above Chironico village in Valle Leventina, spanning altitudes from ~800m up past 1200m. The rock is compact Swiss granitic gneiss with a rough, high-friction texture. Sectors face various directions — Boogalagga, Big Kat, Paese, Centrale and Nivo Bassa cover the full grade range. Best autumn to spring for friction; winter is prime for the hardest projects if the snow stays off. Impermeable gneiss dries quickly after rain.
