About Clauchlands Point
Clauchlands Wall (VS 4c), The Pillar (E1 5b)","Clauchlands Point is an adventurous coastal crag situated on the east coast of the Isle of Arran near Lamlash, offering panoramic views towards Holy Isle. The rock is fine-grained, dark dolerite forming columnar jointing, vertical crack lines, and blocky arêtes above a boulder-strewn shore. Facing east at sea level, the crag receives early morning sun and dries reasonably quickly under coastal breezes, though lower tiers can receive ocean spray during high seas. The climbing style is traditional, featuring technical face and jam crack routes primarily in the VS to mid-E grade range, with classic routes including Clauchlands Wall. The approach involves a pleasant twenty-minute walk along the coastal path from the eastern end of Lamlash. While access is non-tidal, rough ocean swells can make base ledges hazardous during stormy weather.
