About Clogwyn y Grochan

One of the 'big four' Llanberis Pass cliffs and the easiest to access — a short scramble up from the road on the sunny south-facing side of the pass. The rhyolite dries relatively fast compared to Cromlech across the valley, making it the best Pass bet after rain. The climbing is hugely varied, generally well-protected and physically demanding from VS upwards, weaving lines through corners, ledges and steeper walls. Classics run the grades: Brant (VS 4b) is a wandering Welsh classic; Brant Direct (HVS 5a) takes the same feature more directly with continuous bridging and jamming; Slape and Nea (both HVS 5a) and Kaisergebirge Wall (E1 5b) fill out the harder end. A definitive North Wales trad venue.
