  • Good friction range for gritstone
Crookrise is a pristine gritstone edge situated high on the heather moors above Skipton. The rock is top-quality, textured gritstone with immaculate arêtes, thin seams, and clean friction slabs. Facing south across open moorland, the crag acts as a brilliant sun trap and dries almost instantly after rain due to continuous breeze. The climbing focuses on high-quality trad routes and technical bouldering, predominantly in the VS to E5 range. Standout classics like Climb of the Art offer memorable positions. The approach requires a pleasant 20-minute moorland hike from the reservoir car park. High moorland exposure makes warm clothing necessary during autumn and winter visits.
