  • Good friction range for gritstone
Rylstone is a celebrated gritstone cliff marked by the prominent Rylstone Cross on the skyline above Cracoe. The rock consists of hard, immaculate gritstone featuring long horizontal breaks, bold arêtes, and sheer vertical faces. Facing south-southwest with high moorland exposure, the crag catches all available sunlight and dries rapidly following rain showers. The venue is renowned for technical, bold trad climbing across the VS to E6 spectrum, alongside excellent moorland bouldering. Famous classics like Regent Street test nerve and friction technique. Approach via a steady 25-minute uphill walk on public footpaths from Rylstone village. Respecting ground-nesting birds on surrounding moorland tracks is essential during spring.
