About Crow Hill

Crow Hill is Massachusetts's oldest granite-family trad crag — a compact gneiss cliff (not granite, despite common attribution) on the ridge of the Crow Hills monadnock in Leominster State Forest, an hour west of Boston. Mountain Project explicitly warns "Crow Hill's cracks and faces often seep longer and wetter than other New England areas. The climbing season begins in March if it's a dry winter, or as late as June if it's a wet spring" — treat seepage as high and expect long drying times. Mountain Project's top-ranked classics are Intertwine (5.8), Diagonal (5.8+), Tarzan (5.8+), and the local testpiece Cro-Magnon (5.10b/c). East-south-east aspect gives morning sun then afternoon shade. Copperhead snakes have been reported in cracks — routine hazard, not a closure. No climbing permit currently required ("climb at your own risk" per recent MassDCR policy). Main climber lot is off Route 31 in Princeton; the Redemption Rock trailhead on Route 140 is an alternative approach. Free day-use.
