Dinorwic Slate Quarry (Rainbow Slab) is a legendary slate venue set high in the upper levels of Dinorwic, famed for its distinctively striped, multi-coloured slate face. The slate is exceptionally slick and compact, demanding utmost precision on microscopic crimps, delicate balance moves, and small wire placements. Facing southwest, the massive slab receives brilliant afternoon sunshine and dries extremely fast, though strong winds can sweep across the upper quarry levels. The sector caters primarily to intermediate and advanced traditional climbers, alongside select sport lines, with classics like Rainbow Bridge and Pull My Daisy drawing testpiece hunters. The approach involves a twenty-five minute uphill walk via steep quarry tracks from Llanberis or Marchlyn. The sheer drop-offs and loose slate ramps require constant vigilance during approaches and descents.
