About Glen Ogle Sport Crags

Glen Ogle Sport Crags is a historically important Scottish sport venue running north from Lochearnhead along the A85, holding well over two hundred routes across a scattered network of small mica-schist buttresses on both sides of the valley. The rock is characteristically short — most crags eight to ten metres — but uniformly steep and technical, with vertical walls, crimpy face climbing, and small overhangs demanding precise footwork. Aspects vary between the east and west sides of the glen, giving climbers the option to chase sun or shade; the exposed valley position and steady updraft along the pass keep the rock drying reasonably fast, though shaded north-facing sectors can hold damp after prolonged rain. Grades run from Fr5+ up to Fr8b but the sweet spot lies in the Fr7a to Fr7c band, with The Link a classic middle-grade outing. The approach is trivial, mostly under ten minutes from roadside laybys, though loose scree on some descent gullies rewards a helmet.
