Glyder Fach (Main Cliff) towers near the summit of Glyder Fach at 900 metres, offering high-altitude mountain traditional climbing on immaculate volcanic rock. The rock features extraordinary friction, deep-set cracks, and massive weathered blocks, drying reasonably quickly on exposed buttresses in wind. Facing due south, the cliff captures full mid-day sun, though its extreme elevation keeps ambient air temperatures cool even during warm summer periods. Grade distribution spans classic Severe multi-pitch mountain routes to steep E-grades, with Direct Route and Hawk Pinnacle Route offering memorable exposure. The approach requires a strenuous sixty to ninety minute mountain hike up from Ogwen Cottage via Cwm Bochlwyd. Descent routes require crossing boulder fields and steep scree, making good visibility and alpine mountain sense essential.
