About Goat Wall (Mazama)

Goat Wall is a 1,500-foot multi-pitch sport crag looming above Mazama in the Methow Valley — an enormous glacially carved massif of meta-pyroclastic rock about three miles north of the Mazama Store. Historically a winter ice and mixed venue (November–March), Goat Wall's modern claim to fame is summer sport multi-pitches, including Prime Rib of Goat (5.9 sport, one of the state's tallest bolted moderates), Restless Native (5.10a), and Flying Circus (5.11c). Big drainage streaks through the middle of the wall stay wet into early summer and dry out by mid-summer, so June through September is the reliable rock-climbing season. Approach via a short trail from Lost River Road. Watch for rockfall on approach and take a short trad rack on the natural-line routes.
